The new area PCC (Police and Crime Commissioner) has changed the way speeders are dealt. He is pushing for far more emphasis on Speedwatch. There are now 44 schemes in Somerset. The wording of the letters sent to offenders has changed as have the penalties. Since we started over 1500 letters have been sent out, so the police and PCC are now clamping down. Penalty points, fines of £100 and 3 penalty points, and in some cases disqualification or fines up to 150% of weekly wage can be imposed.
