Hatherstone Wood

Hatherstone Wood, situated at Primrose Hill on the Parish boundaries of East Coker, West Coker & Hardington Mandeville, was created in 1999 as part of the Woodland Trust’s ‘Woods on Your Doorstep’ scheme, a millennium project.  It is an 8 acre site with grass footpaths; you are welcome to walk here at any time.

Two Millennium features were created: a Hamstone seat with rope scrolling, depicting the heritage of rope making in West Coker, & two large standing stones. A wooden seat was donated by the WI.  Latterly, a seasonal pond was created and a wild flower area sown.

A management committee with representatives from all three Parishes, was formed in 2000 in order to assist the Woodland Trust’s management of the site.  ‘New blood’ is always welcome so if you want to get involved please contact  Anne Blight: tel 01935 863689.
